Mangia Onda, a division of M SHIP CO, and Siewert Design were recently honored with the Bronze Award in the 2003 Industrial Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) competition for their collaboration designing the Wahoo Sailing Dinghy. The innovative sailboat design won the award based on judging criteria including design innovation, benefit to the user and business, ecological responsibility and aesthetic appeal. The Wahoo shared the spotlight with the best and hottest designers of products such as the BMW Mini Cooper and Palm PDA.
Mangia Onda Company, which has been gaining publicity as makers of “wave-eating” fast and smooth-riding motorboats, has now branched off into sailboats. The new dinghy is colorful and fun, yet safe and easy to handle. Although it differs from its parent boats at Mangia Onda in that it is not motor-driven, the dinghy retains the same basic hull design to ensure stability and a smooth ride. While the Wahoo will hold adults, it is geared mainly for use by children, so safety and stability were two of our key concerns.
