Mangia Onda Company, which has been gaining publicity as makers of “wave-eating” fast and smooth-riding motorboats, has now branched off into sailboats. The new dinghy is colorful and fun, yet safe and easy to handle. Although it differs from its parent boats at Mangia Onda in that it is not motor-driven, the dinghy retains the same basic hull design to ensure stability and a smooth ride. While the Wahoo will hold adults, it is geared mainly for use by children, so safety and stability were two of our key concerns.
Since 1995, Mangia Onda Company has been designing high-quality motorboats that suppress waves and ride on a cushion of air due to their innovative hull structure. Mangia Onda Company boats were originally intended for use on the canals of Venice to assist with erosion problems, but their potential is universal. As the boat moves through the water, the bow wave from the central hull is forced in a spiral motion down the wing channel. The outer vertical skirts capture the bow wave and prevent the wave energy from moving away from the boat, thereby “eating” the bow wave and prompting the name “Mangia Onda,” which means “wave eater” in Italian. The ceiling of the wing channel compresses the bow wave to the waterline as it moves toward the transom. This compression of the air beneath the hull creates an air cushion and increases propulsion efficiency by converting wave energy to boat lift.
Mangia Onda is branching out from motorboats with a sailing dinghy. This represents a new side to the company, and we are confident that the dinghies will be as popular as the motorboats continue to be.
